Comfortable Daybeds

A daybed is practically a bed that you put outside of the bedroom. It can come in many forms including the standard narrow raised bedframe look with some railings or cushions on the side or it can look like a one piece contoured bean bag. Some daybeds can even convert from a sofa or couch into an actual bed that you can sleep on, either for a short nap or siesta during the day or for the usual 6 hours of sleep everyone needs at night. The key to getting a comfortable daybed is the padding and overall design.

Most daybeds are quite narrow since its only designed to offer you a short nap. As such the padding or daybed mattress is often very thin and not as well-padded as usual bedroom mattresses. Quite often, these mattresses are little more than wider or longer than average cushions filled with a little foam and aren't all that comfortable to lie on. As such you don't end up with the support necessary for a good nap, waking up with an ache in your back or a crick in the neck. The prettier and more ergonomic daybeds are usually notorious for this but since they're designed to look pretty instead of giving you a great daytime nap experience you get what you pay for.

As such simplicity of design is key to getting a comfortable daybed experience. For some people a usual narrow rectangular daybed is more than enough to stretch out and catch a nice snooze. However, if you tend to roll a little during sleep you're more than likely to get a sudden fall from dreamland which can be quite disconcerting. Therefore its always good to get a daybed that is either convertible or one that has a little bit more width than the average narrow design.

Once you've settled on the actual design that suits you best its time to look for the right padding. There's a whole bunch of stuff to factor in since you're using the daybed as both a couch as well as a bed. If you're going to use it for night-time sleep the mattress has to be a bit tougher considering that its going to go through a bit more wear and tear than usual. This necessitates going for a more durable spring-type mattress which tends to a bit less comfortable than a soft foam filled one. As such the best type of mattress in terms of comfort and durability is usually the latex foam filled daybed mattress. Unfortunately the price for such mattresses is exorbitantly high and even more so if you're looking for one with a non-standard size. Alternative mattress fillings include bamboo fiber (which is just as expensive) and kapok or 'kekabu' but both are considered just as comfortable as latex foam filled mattresses.
